Pretty Good Run

On her birthday, a woman pauses to reflect on a pivotal decision from her past.

Director's Statement: In late March 2016, I learnt of Harvard Square Script Writers and Women in Film and Video joining together to create an international film competition “Flicks4Chicks.” I was immediately interested as they promote diverse female cast and crew in an industry majorly lacking of diversity. With a great belief in Gina Davis’ mantra that 'if she can see it, she can be it,' it is my prerogative to produce images, messages, and films for the world to see reality better portrayed through media. Although we were given a scenario from which we were to build our script, my team and I sought to find an opportunity to better understand and portray the complexity of what women face on a day to day basis. We chose to portray a powerful portion of that complexity by focusing on procreation and the many aspects of that ability-which is exclusive to a woman’s experience. Until the late 1970’s in the US and the UK, women were forced to give their babies away if born out of wedlock. We chose to set our film in such a period, addressing head-on the changing human rights in our society. With only a month’s period, from 1 April 2016 to 1 May 2016, we brainstormed, wrote, auditioned for, filmed, and edited Pretty Good Run.
