A chance meeting on a train reveals old secrets and renews faith in romantic possibility
As students, Tom and Marianne fell in love with each other. The trouble was, neither of them made their feelings known, so they went their separate ways. Fifteen years later, they meet by chance on the train from London to Newcastle. Tom, still reeling the death of his wife, has lost hope. Marianne, having devoted herself to looking after her husband and four daughters, has lost herself. To celebrate this chance reunion, the two decide to spend the day together in Newcastle. Their 'date' turns into dinner and with it comes the the revelation of the love they once felt for each other, but never disclosed. Fired by loss and longing, this could be the moment when they consummate the love that began all those years ago. But as real life intervenes, what they ACTUALLY do next means that no one is hurt or betrayed, while also restoring their faith in romantic possibility - the promise of their youth.
