Punk in the East

2018, 11 minutes

'Punk in the East’ was a festival of events celebrating the 40th anniversary of punk that took place in the Norwich Lanes in 2016 and lives on in a digital Punk archive.

Modern historian Professor Matt Worley, from the University of Reading, instigated the celebration as part of a research project exploring Punk as a subculture and its value as a part of British history. Here, Matt speaks to the festival’s organiser, Jonty Young, a Norwich punk from the days of 1977. ‘Punk in the East’ included gigs, films, a trail around the Norwich Lanes and an exhibition at the Museum in Norwich at the Bridewell.
