Based on real events from the second half of the twentieth century, involving the exposure of a British agent, Joan Stanley, as a KGB informer

Joan, a retired physicist, receives a visit from an MI5 agent in 2000, decades after her involvement in British government activities. She had been a student at Cambridge University, had fallen in love with a Communist while there and subsequently became involved in the UK's nuclear testing programme. She is exposed as a KGB informer.
