German famine of 1946, an former SS officer tries to flee to Switzerland

Peter, an almost blind sixteen year old and his father Heiner are fleeing from Germany to Switzerland. Soldier Karl promised to bring them save to the border but he dies before they can reach his families farm in the Black Forest, close to the border. Peter and Heiner decide to bring the body home and to ask his father for help. But before they can start moving again a massive snowstorm is hitting the farm. When they are forced to stay for a few days, things begin to unfold.
