'Service' takes place in a universe where the internet's digital advances are an illusion.

'Service' takes place in a universe where the internet's digital advances are an illusion. It is entirely dependent on an underground operation, which uses lo-fi, analogue technology (fax machines, VHS tapes etc) and labourers (Service Providers) in place of the self-sufficient technology we are used to. Each internet user has been ascribed a Service Provider, who perform manual tasks at the whims of the user. Think a cross between '1984', 'Brazil' and an anti-'Tron'. The story centres on Michael, a Service Provider who has taken the job to support his daughter Anna, and his user, Nigel. At the behest of Nigel, Michael's duties include shooting other Service Providers (as per the wants of video games), putting on pornographic videos and performing searches in libraries for information. Michael is thrown into moral conflict when he discovers that his daughter, Anna, has taken a job as an adult actress, and Nigel, his user has become obsessed with her.
