Shadow Gene

2014, 93 minutes

A female assassin on a mission to destroy a destructive gene in men discovers that she has been betrayed.

Damsel has been raised by a mysterious woman who has nurtured her into becoming a deadly killer. However an encounter with a seedy Corporate Executive shifts the power between victim and perpetrator and she is thrown headlong into a personal catharsis that uncovers fundamental aspects of corporate greed at the heart of her mission. Shot in London on grainy black and white, Shadow Gene pays homage to the French Nouvelle Vague as it follows an ethereal female assassin stalking testosterone-fuelled Corporate Executives accompanied by a sparse piano score. Analogue driven and produced with a skeleton crew for minimal resources the film is an important, aesthetically charged representation of the anti-heroine using re-claimed 16mm and S8mm film, photographic prints, hand-drawn animation and graphics to underline its wholly experimental character.
