Friendship is put to the test during a life-changing weekend of camping
Written by 'Sophie's Diary' contributor Melanie Martinez 'Smile' follows the story of a group of friends who come together for a reunion camping trip to celebrate...they don't quite know what. The story centres on the character of Benjamin, who, unbeknownst to his companions, has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and with little time left it is his last chance to see them all together. Unfortunately Benjamin has yet to come to terms with his condition himself and the fireworks fly as the group discover his situation whilst trying to pose for a photograph. Everyone has difficulty dealing with the news and indeed with coming to terms with their own personal journies of the weekend. We see the group as they continue their journies, cement relationships and learn to value the important things in life. This film came about as a result of two weeks of workshops between the actors and the film writer Melanie Martinez. It is essentially a professionaly written, filmed and directed production in conjunction with student actors.
