Sodom and Gomorrah: Exporting Homophobia to Africa

How African is homophobia? Uganda, a country now infamous for its proposed "kill the gays" bill is at the centre of an epidemic of violence and murder against LGBTQ+ people, and neighbouring Kenya where many Ugandans have fled, isn't any better. But homophobia on the continent isn't new. The first anti-homosexuality laws in East Africa were written by the British and today, North American evangelicals are reinforcing those laws by spreading their extreme anti-homosexuality agenda through the continent. redfish travelled between Kenya and Uganda to map the evangelical network, speak to activists and members of the LGBTQ+ community and investigate just how far evangelicals will go to spread their ideas across the globe.
