Swans Are Not the Only Birds
2017, 12 minutes
George, recently bereaved and increasingly deaf, regrets getting hearing aids when he overhears a revealing conversation about himself, but there is an unexpected compensation.
George, still grieving his wife's death, is becoming increasingly deaf. His daughter persuades him to try hearing aids, but George is appalled by the city's traffic noise, and the heightened sounds of his own, suddenly unfamiliar, kitchen. Worse, he realises through overhearing a conversation about himself that he is not as welcome in his daughter's house as he imagined. Disheartened, he visits the lake his wife loved, and finds there an unexpected solace.
