Three obsessed men have struggled to each learn Japanese for the girl of their dreams: the sweet and innocent (?) Sayuri.
The story tells of three English men so obsessed by a Japanese girl they learn the language for her. But as it progesses we see that perhaps she is not as naive as she at first seems. The narrative is stylised; using various film-making methods as the story develops so does the period. Beginning with silent film through various methods of filming in black and white, heavy 50's colour up to present day. A simple, charming, subtley satiral little film.
