Dr Lance Backstock tries to find missing men in the dark world of vaping in Tamworth.
Men are going missing in Tamworth. Ransom notes are being left in destroyed homes; wives are being extorted for money they don't have. The wives are complaining, but nobody seems to care. Who will help them? Facing a crisis of his own, reptilian psychologist Dr Lance Backstock has always been a man of simple routines. Yet when a victim's wife and client of his asks for pills to put an end to her sleepless nights, he snaps out of his midlife paralysis. Some men get a sports car, some get a younger girlfriend, but Dr Backstock become fixated on the Tamworth disappearances, and falls headfirst into the neo-noir fantasies of his Raymond Chandler-obsessed mind.
