The Bike Thief

2005, 109 minutes

He stole what he planned to borrow, then lost what he planned to keep...

It's summer 2005, in the medieval city of York, England - reportedly the most haunted city in the world. As the sun beats down, Jack, an American exchange student, goes for a casual jog in the Yorkshire countryside. Jack likes his 'common space'. Blissfully unaware he has trespassed onto a gun-toting old hippie's farm, he finds her ravenous guard dog fast on his tail. With little chance of negotiation, Jack's casual jog becomes a wild sprint for his life. Desperately, he 'borrows' the old hippie's bicycle in an attempt to evade the dog's bite, and back on the university campus, his wheel-spinning story fuels a cruel prank by his room mates, who play with his concept of 'common space', thereby catalyzing a series of farcical and hilarious conflicts that spiral out of control. As the adventure unfolds, an ensemble international cast and fly-on-the-wall cinematography captures this hilarious battle of wits and snappy one-liners, amid a backdrop of rolling hills, beer, sword fights, rusty bicycles and valuable lessons from an unlikely reunion with the old hippie herself...
