The inner turmoil of a child unable to stop his parents from separating.
Roy is at an age where he can't yet fully comprehend the adult reasons why his parents are breaking up, unable to understand why all Roy is left with is fear and anxiety and a stark reminder of how powerless he is to fix his broken domestic life. Roy's turbulence is made manifest in the form of a child's demonic nightmare which haunts him day and night as he struggles to come to terms with life without his father being within domestic reach.
