The Scribblers

2015, 20 minutes

A dramedy focusing on the themes of passivity, depression, anxiety and the folly of control; if you could know the future, would you want to?

The story is about a young man named Ulysses, who is trying to predict the future with an algorithm because he can’t live in a world of uncertainty. He believes that he is close to finalizing the algorithm and is ready to prove his theory. When he tries to do this he fails, which thrusts him into despair and he makes a decision to end his life. Right before he can commit suicide, a woman named Selma who knows details about Ulysses life that she couldn’t possibly know stops him. She then reveals that she is in fact a clairvoyant, who already knows the future and she has come to warn him of the perils of such knowledge. During the story we also encounter Fred a corporeal manifestation of Ulysses’ reasoning capacity, who has been trying to set Ulysses straight for some time.
