The Silver Goat

2011, 90 minutes

B & W feature film

Lydia Brass is a once famous stage actress thanks to her being the daughter and lead for the world-renowned playwright, Sir Rowland Brass. Now only in her early thirties, Lydia is determined not to work for her father any longer for reasons she initially won't disclose. She also thinks she may no longer want to act, but when she develops a relationship with an ambitious American playwright, and ultimately marries him, he gradually coerces her back on stage. It is by returning to the stage that she finds herself caught in a manipulative game of tug of war where she doesn't know who to believe: her father, her husband, a writer who is a plain old nobody, or no one altogether. Set in London, The Silver Goat tells a dark psychological story that touches on themes of gender and power dynamics within relationships, both romantic and familial, and on the effects of fame and success on those in a creative field.
