The Spelling Bee is a Macbeth-inspired dark comedy, detailing the downfall of protagonist Grace. Grace - severely dyslexic, shy and consumed by her insecurities - she constantly lives in the shadow of best friend Jess. Until a mysterious man appears in her life. George is fixated on the idea of Grace winning the spelling bee. It is soon revealed that George is in fact Satan in disguise, and has become set on taking Grace’s soul, using the competition as a way to obtain it.
