The Webcast

2014, 160 minutes

Horror and Mystery

College student film maker, Chloe Webber has been dragged out of the city by her mother in order to care for her vegetative grandfather, on the leafy, retirement friendly, suburban street of Cornwall Close. To keep herself occupied, Chloe begins to make a documentary about her long-missing aunt, who vanished from the street thirty years ago and who’s creepily- preserved bedroom, Chloe is currently staying in. One night, whilst filming in the street with her best friend, Ed and her younger sister, Amy, they witness a girl bursting out of their neighbour’s house, smeared in blood and hugely distressed. Before they can come to grips with the situation, the girl is leapt upon by Chloe’s neighbours and sedated by the street’s doctor, before being carried back into the house. The next morning, her neighbours and the doctor are keen to explain to Chloe that the girl is a drug addict undergoing withdrawal. But as Chloe replays the events as she recorded them, she begins to suspect that this girl is being held against her will and that there might be a connection between her neighbours and her long-missing aunt. With the help of Ed and Amy, Chloe begins to film her neighbours, but as she digs deeper into their lives, she finds herself caught up in a world of old religions, witchcraft, and sacrifice. Her search for the truth will climax in a live webcast that will terrify and make those watching question the very authenticity of what they are seeing. The Last Webcast is inspired by a wealth of films from both the horror and thriller genres, including Rear Window, The Wicker Man, Catfish, The Blair Witch Project, Rosemary’s Baby, Paranormal Activity, and Race with the Devil.
