John returns home to Ireland. He has not visited the house he built with his wife since her suicide two years previously. His plan, to join his wife, Nuala, and end his heartache and guilt. On arrival at their lakeside home memories pull him to the past and his grief begins to unravel. As he explores the house and his emotions he discovers a box that Nuala has left for him in her studio. The box contains various mementos and a hand bound book “The White Lady”. He begins to read and we are transported into the story where Sean spies and pursues the White Lady. We discover that she is a Banshee from the lake bound to the water as a punishment and granted one boon. That she may walk in flesh and blood under the full moon, from sunset to sunrise once in every hundred years. The two stories then run parallel over the course of one night. John slowly lets go as he reads, drinks and explores the suicide box. Worlds blur and john is transported into the book as he identifies with the characters. The reason for Nuala’s suicide is revealed and John returns to the present day. After finally putting her spirit to rest he finds peace and natural order restored.
