Mike Leigh’s sumptuous period masterpiece cataloguing the creative tensions and arguments between WS Gilbert (Jim Broadbent) and Arthur Sullivan (Allan Corduner) which culminated in the creation of what is regarded by many as their finest operetta, The Mikado. This superb film boasts an excellent, all-singing ensemble cast including Timothy Spall, Shirley Henderson, Lesley Manville and Kevin McKidd, and glorious, Oscar-winning costumes. A hugely enjoyable film.
