Two Dancers

2012, 15 minutes

A dancer, giving lessons to a couple for their first wedding dance, finds herself drawn into their fractured relationship and forced to confront her own emotional demons.

Sofia, a beautiful dancer, has moved to London to audition for ballet companies and avoid a string of suitors from her past, who leave obsessive messages on her answerphone. But while men won't leave her alone, casting directors seem to have no such problem. Hard up and desperate, she is forced to start giving lessons to make ends meet. Her first clients are Caroline and Daniel, on the surface the perfect pair of to-be-weds, who ask her to get Daniel ready for the first dance for their wedding. But as soon as Sofia enters their lives it is clear that all is not well between them. Caroline is obsessed with creating the perfect wedding, but her fiancee can't dance... or won't dance, for reasons that go much deeper than just two left feet. As the lesson progresses, Daniel sees Sofia as a confidante, a temptation, and maybe more. When he tracks her down at her rehearsal studio and begs for one final lesson, both of them are forced, through the dance, to face up to their life choices, and decide what intimacy and partnership mean to each of them. Will Sofia's spell wreck Daniel's marriage? Is Sofia condemned to be pursued for her beauty instead of succeeding as an artist? The answers may be on the answerphone...
