Valentine Deakin, Deadwood's doctor is asked to meet the town's new teacher, the English woman, Elizabeth Ellis. Deakin and she appear to become mutually attracted. A wounded union soldier, Harrison Strathern comes into town and is treated by Deakin. Deakin suspects his honesty and thinks he is responsible for the ambush and robbery of a townsman. When Strathern also falls for Elizabeth's favours, a showdown rears its head.
