Willie is an 11 year old east end boy who is evacuated to Suffolk during WW11. There he makes friends with the upper class boy who lives in the Manor where he stays. Willie misses his mother but discovers some hidden truths about his father. Following numerous adventures the film comments on the affect the war had on ordinary families.
