CULLING SEASON

Hi all,

What are peoples thoughts on Culling season with agents? Its that time of year when new graduates come in and those that have not worked are dropped...would be intersted to hear peoples thoughts....

Antoinette,

I also think that we as actors can be grossly hypersensitive. Its true that I have been through a lot in the last two months, but i can also be very paranoid and assume the worrst.

I also know that I ahve a tendency to be very direct and to the point- I leave no room for guesswork or riddles in my dealings with my friends, colleagues and my agent-

I really am saying that perhaps you need to train yourself to be much more direct with them- its very against british sensibilities but to go and say you ahve concerns and what do they think etc is the best approach.

You can be polite but to the point- and even ask them directly "What do you see me as in the business?" and you will soon know. You always have the option of seeking a new agent, but its crucial to try with this one.

Before leaving my previopus agent, i tried THREE to FOUR times to make things work and put a cattle prod to his butt- he continued to be disorganised and lied about money from jobs I was earning-

I eventually had enough and played nice guy and found a new agent and dropped him. But I tried many times to communicate that i was unhappy.

My new agents are approachable, reasonable, upfront and put me up for stuff from TV, theatre, film and stuff- the Bill etc....

Its really good as they are totally approachable- and i do believe they work for me. I can be direct with tjem and ask them direct questions- they respond exactly the same.

PM me if you need more advice as I am so happy to help- the agent thing is one of the worst things about this profession.
