Dumped

I've just been dumped by my absolutely useless agent who I have had for the past three years. Most of the work I have done I have got myself from here and other places plus word of mouth. They are a young bunch and I think I was too old for them.

So, here I go again looking for somebody to represent me. Haven't been on Casting Call Pro for some time but I'm back. Best thing that happened to me last year was a movie in which I had a great part was premiered in Leicester Square. That was fun and I was a star for a day! What's in store this year?

Hi Des. Sorry to hear that news - make sure you take the Agent's name from your profile, though.

I, too, enjoyed being a "star for a day" at that same premiere of Tortoise In Love - a film which is now showing in selected cinemas in the US.

I hope you find another Agent soon - they may not always find you castings/auditions but in this industry you need to be able to say that you've got one.

    All the best.

Hi Des. I had the same fate at the end of last year. How are you going to pick yourself up? Do you follow the B.A.N. chat on fbook? I would have thought perhaps if the old agent was useless, this could be an opportunity to move into a stronger position, re-alligning yourself with an outfit that respect your talents. I am finding it hard to get going this year, but at least within this profession there is no end to how pro-active you can be...so the buck stops with you I guess...

I hope you get new rep'n soon, and when you do, post an update telling us how you managed the transformation!

How can an agent just dump someone? What was their reason?

Thanks for all your replies. Why was I dumped? Possibly because I was too old and decrepit! The other actors on their books were all in their twenties and the agents were too so I suppose it's understandable.

Not to worry, it just means I now have to find a more mature and experienced agent who has been around a while and has all the contacts.

Des, may I also suggest that you ensure your CCP profile is totally up to date and correct?

This way, any prospective Agent will at least know that you are proactive with self promotion.

    All the best.

If an agent thinks you're too old at 57 that's their problem. Is it the same agent as your CV? If so update.

too old and decrepid? never Dan...

I think a bit of poetry is in order here, from the great man Dylan Thomas:

Do not go gentle into that good night,

    Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I hope you do some quiet raging!

Wasn't me saying he was too old. I was quoting what Des thought was the reason. Any CD who thinks I'm past it I'll invite to a brisk 200km cycle ride with me!

    Hey Des,

At least you got dumped. Mine just disappeared. I looked for the phone number, it just doesnt exsist anymore and the email or website doesnt exsist either.

Its better off you doing everything yourself. But I had an audition for a Lion King recently but they were asking for my agents details. Sigh!

Good luck for 2013! All will be well! Lets be positive. xx

thanks Dan..nothing wrong with being desperate

Lernice that sounds intrigueing. I can imagine the scene at the audition..

CD: yes good audition, but youve left a gap where it asks you for your agent's name..

    L: Yes, they've er..dissapeared.

    CD: Dissapeared?

L: Yes, they vanished. Without trace. Sad business.. Gone. Probably dead. BUt you liked my audition??

Yes, Lemice, sometimes I wonder what is the point of agents. Why shouldn't you be allowed to audition for Lion King? All they have to do is look at your credits, see you have experience and give you a go. The whole acting business needs grabbing by the scruff of the neck and given a good shaking!

Hey Des, and the rest. This is happening a lot. I to was dump at the end of last year (by text may I add) I was with them for two years and only got three casting, he also took the summer of 2012 of to work for the Olympic's. where do you go from here? All the work I'm getting is off my own back but I have had to pick myself back up so I got a new head shot I've taken off my old showreel and started to play around and add more to it but when it comes to picking a new agent this is the test, there are so many out there now it's like a new one pops up every week plus you have to be right for them. I wish you the best of luck Des

The reason producers are reluctant to hire people without agents is because they don't want to talk contracts and money direct as it can be troublesome. That is what agents are for in their eyes. Tough but true

Georgia, you are SO right. Last year I mentioned something on the forum about being "under consideration" with a certain company (for whom I had worked before), and I received a chastising email from the company owner. NOTHING on this forum is private.

Just wondering, does anyone happen to know if Rapid Talent are still in business? The website was last updated February and I've not had a reply to my last email.

Well, mine folded, then got back up again and I was asked to rejoin and then it folded again and now I hear they're back in business again - this time they haven't asked me back! Not going to bother if they do ask me back! As for Rapid Talent, I haven't heard about them for years so assumed they have folded too.
