Hi guys
I'm looking for advice on joining an extras agency and was wondering which are the best.

Thanks

Just to add my tuppence worth, the beeb thing is an urban myth!! I worked as an sa for a long time while studying and have since worked on lots of beeb productions with no problems.

Hi ya

With regards to the beeb pay thing, I was told this by both the agents I had in my 20's and 30's, plus by casting directors in workshops at the actors centre, so I guess it probably used to be the case when the beeb was much more of a closed shop and didn't use freelance CD's etc.

I have been in the profession for many years...!

I suspect, with the opening up of the beeb, and using outside companies etc, it would be really hard for them to keep track of that sort of thing these days.

I also suspect, these days, it would also be much easier to work as an extra under a name different to your acting name as well.

do it if you want to do it.. know what you are getting into and don't put it on your CV unless you have a section specifically for SA work.

good luck.. check in contacts as said before .. mad dog is a name I hear good things about

You won't hear good things about Mad Dog from me and I've been with them for 3 years...and trying to leave for 2 of them! PM for specifics!

I originally worked as a SA when I was a dancer when my mindset was not really on acting and have worked on half a dozen productions before focusing on an acting career. I have had very varied experiences some have been enjoyable and some utterly dire. Ultimately it has been educational in terms of observing what its like to work on film or television and good for a bit of extra cash. I am not sure who are considered to be the best agencies to work for now but there are generally only about 5 of any repute. I have been well paid in the past but often the work I have done has fallen on bank holidays or the work had gone onto overtime. The rates of pay and perks seemed to have dwindled since I started about 10years ago.
