Getting an agent

Hi there,

I'm a 24 year old who has finished training, performed in many amateur dramatics pieces as well as shorts, music videos etc. I have my portfolio ready and have sent off to about 50 agents along with a cover letter and CV - but am having no luck at all!
Is there a nack to writing a good cover letter? Also, do you need to have an agent to find out auditions for TV, Film and Theatre?
Sorry, this may seem really obvious but I am hitting a brick wall and if there is someone out there who could give me some advice I would really appreciate it.
Many thanks!
Grace

Getting a good agent is key, that and a spotlight number will unlock a world of higher level of work/pay. Letters are no good, you need to speak to and then meet these people. There's a fine line between annoying and pro active, so tread with your brain. Make it easy for the agents to like you and want to meet you. Emails and letters are not enough, get a banging show reel and approach them with positive news, this way you can keep ringing back and it's not just a repeat call asking for representation. Make yourself desirable (commercially) and make sure your targeting the right agents, as many specialise (although they won't admit it). Also, you have to be good at what you do, try and find something that you can offer that no other actor can, no matter how small, anything to set you above the throngs of hopeful talent is an advantage
