Getting an agent!

Is being excepted onto spotlight the best source for every thriving actor ? As it seems most agents won't take you seriously unless your a member ?

Is there other ways to get work other than castingcallpro, spotlight ?

Thanks

Adam

To answer Dave Frost's post.

I'm getting a show reel made within the next month or so hopefully. I'm chasing Equity because I know they advertise professional jobs on their site and applying for those will eventually lead me to gaining my first professional credit and help me towards gaining Spotlight membership.

I've applied for a lot of jobs on CCP but with all the competition who already have showreels and professional credits I need all the help I can get. Hence why I'm making Equity a priority.

A guy I met an audition yesterday was saying that he managed to get some of his professional credits through an extra's or featured artists agency. Apparently some of the better ones sort out pro contracts for you.
I can vouch for this personally but it worked for him.

There are very few jobs advertised currently on Equity. It is something they are working on to encourage, more people to use the casting pages.
The competition would be just as fierce on Equity.
I would consider spotlight as a priority. And look at some of the TIE work on CCP

Spotlight it on my target goal list. I'm just trying to focus on one thing at a time. Getting my showreel done, obtaining my professional credit, Equity and then Spotlight.

Depending on how things go Equity and Spotlight will change priority steps. But I'm hoping to fulfil the requirements needed for Equity by the end of next week.

I would say spoylight should be a first priority then equity. Edpecially if you want to get in next book that goes out to casting directors. Spotlight is to find work and equity is a union to protect you once you actually get the work!

You both seem to have enough credits to get on spotlight anyway :-)

Too late for the book

Spotlight is very important, and so is a showreel.
I wouldn't worry to much about Equity at this stage, I am on Spotlight and also have a showreel but I feel I need to be a little more established before I get into Equity.
Showreels can be made from Student films, as long as they are shot on good quality cameras and it shows your range then your fine, A professional credit is easier than you think keep trying :)

Sorry didn't realise it was too late for the book! I find getting the footage of the things you have done, in order to put together a showreel the biggest challenge! :-(

spotlight is the industry standard and yes you want eventually to have a presence there..but whats the rush? actors never retire remember... i've had paid work through PCR, The Stage, Mandy.com, Casting now even actors-inc etc etc you can build a showreel and build your credits

yes a lot of agents want you to already have a presence there because they want actors who are already working and building up there network..you will get there you just have to keep going

Well i filled out the online application and was rejected with my credits. It seems i was right the first time around,as they don't except commercials, short films, educational work, radio, stills or virals to start with. Everything else its seems is fine, and you need a minimum of 4 jobs ...Then i guess it doesn't matter what you do. Whata nightmare lol.

Book deadline for guys is around October, for girls its May time. Usually if you apply in between times you'll pay for a longer membership so you are in the next years book.
