No castings!

Hey guys,

Finally, I upgraded and I can't believe I haven't sooner!

I wanted to ask you all a question that there is no definitive answer to but maybe you could offer some advice!

I've been with a highly reputable agent for 7 months and am failing to get picked up by casting directors. I've had two castings but after chatting to my lovely agent, am informed that I am being submitted for loads of stuff but just not reaching them.

I intend to change my photograph again to see if this is the reason but am starting to wonder what exactly could be fuelling this.

I had an agent for 12 months prior to this one and never received a solitary casting. Yet a few years ago I was on a role with my agent of the time but I took some time out! How CRAZY, I now realise but I was becoming that way, crazy!

Is it me? Or is that what we all ask ourselves? I just need to hear from fellow actors to see if they're feeling the same way.

Oh theres no harm in having the professional touch with make up. No-one can look identical to their photo when they walk into their casting. A photo only captures a still image of a person and in real life one can look extremely different when mannerisms and characteristics are thrown into the mix.

I think we can become a little precious about this 'look like your photo' theory. Naturally, you need to look of the same 'type' but it never ceases to amaze me when meeting well known faces how incredibly different they look once you speak to them.

And MAC rocks!!! I love my MAC. It creates a 'I've got no make-up on' look but makes you look simply fabulous!!

Free products for plugging please, Mr Mac...

Forgot to add, Andrea your photos are great! Although I've never met you, the photos look to catch you really well. You certainly don;t look over made up or anything.

I really like them. I think the Almighty Lord should have gifted all women with make up expertise. Grr!

Andrew...how many drinks have you had?
And it's still morning!

Although a grag queen sounds almost more apt.

I cannot tell you how many times I have been at auditions and seen actors come in who are either before me or after me, and many times, they look nothing like their headshots.

I have had students who i teach singing to who look nothing like their headshots. I also know that if one does wear make up on a photo, you dont always have a good chace of replicating that perfectly and it wastes the CDS time and reflects badly on the actor.

Not having a go at anyone, but its wise to consider the consequences of not being right for a job-- its not just getting an audition, its leaving with good feedback and an impression that even though you are not right, you will still ONE DAY be castable ion something- and if you dont look like your headshot, you not only represent yourself badly- but also your agent- who relies on you to do a good impression. You are promoting each other!!!!

Surely its obvious you need to look like your headshot! Apart from hair being tied back, different clothing etc, I can't see how different you can look.

If you're slapping it on like Katie Price for your picture then turning up looking like an English rose then you're silly.

Common sense.

I think everyone on here referring to make-up is talking 'within reason.

sammy,

there are a lot of things one assumes is common sense in this business, and while you see it sensibly, many dont or have not an iotaof an idea of what casting directors want.

To the more experienced actors its obvious, but to many who ae not, this business resembles something of a shapeshifter and the ropes and standards change all the time... many performers do niot see themselves as a business and consider how they market themselves from that aspect.

scary, but true.

Well, I certainly haven't cracked it as I'm receiving no castings at present.

But I'm suprised people are that daft!
