Casting Collective

Casting Network

UniversalExtras (but be prepared to be offered work at well below union rates)

I used to use Ray Knight, Casting collective (who only open their books around once a year- about now I think) casting network, universal extras, also guys and dolls are apparently ok. I signed up with FAB casting but they took the joining fee off me and then barely ever contacted me for work.

Hope that helps :)

A minefield to be sure. The Casting Collective, Ray Knight, Mad Dog, are the ones I know and used to work for. 20/20 was another but not sure if they are still operating.

I use Casting Collective - who only take a relatively small book fee from your first job.

Incidentally, what do peeps think of doing background/walk on while waiting for 'proper' ;-) acting work?

Some say it's a real no-no. What do you think?

Maddog, Uni-versal, casting network have all got me decent work. So try these...

I think that this type of work is fine to do while waiting for the more high profile jobs to come along. They are a good chance to network and earn a bit too...

I started off in the business as an SA but found it was frowned upon and wasn't leading to acting work proper. People tell me things have changed but working on a film last December as an Extra, I beg to differ. It works for some more than others.

I'm not looking at SA work as a way into 'real' acting, just another strand to help pay the bills :-)

Anyway .... hope I haven't highjacked your post, Scott, by a discussion on the merits of SA work!!! Hopefully, though, you've got a few possibilities to investigate too.

Meryl,

You may want to search in the forum for "Stigma surrounding S.A Work"

There is lots of information and opinion on the subject you are raising.

Best.

If your in the North West two casting agents that are really good are Lemon Casting and Gadbury Casting- they both get lots of work for Shamless,Corrie and a host of other establised soaps and new productions
