15 yr old casting director - huh?

i don;t know if anyone else has seen it, but there is a job posting on another casting site where the director/casting director is only 15!

I'm no way implying that he cannot produce films at that age, but surely there are legal implications when a 15 year old boy is meeting strangers of the internet? even if it is purely professional... he doesn't know that?!

But maybe there will be other people involved in the casting there too. Or did it say it was a one to one?

He's up front with his age!
At least he gives you the chance to "caveat emptor" your response.

I wouldn't drive all the way from here to audition but I might if it was nearby ...

yeah maybe he will be with a supervising adult. it didn't mention though.

I was just thinking about the legality working with/for children etc.

I found his website, and he wants to film in 2011, when I believe he would be over 16, so maybe that's his way round the CRB issue, but of course, he would be 15 in the auditions. Some of the characters were young children as well, surely that must mean adult supervision is required. No parent would let their child even go to the audition, never mind filming, at that age!

Its probably a 15 year old kid who is setting himself up as a "casting director" and when you get there, you find out its for a high school or a student film.

I had a similar situation recently when I got offered a job for an audition I went to and wasnt told all the ins and out before I accepted.

If you do go, be sure to ask for an email or confirmation and who is casting and where-

its more upfront for them to explain the situation than parade as a CD.

I think it would be a great experience you be surprised just how much knowledge a 15 yr old can have about the industry and perhaps his parents are directors who knows but go for it.

oh i ain't going for it. i just saw it was a feature film casting and read the details.

Mary is probably right, if he isn't filming for a couple of years, that's obviously his way round it. maybe he can't even get funding when under 16?

Indeed - "caveat emptor"

I can't find anywhere (in the ad or his website) where he calls himself a "casting director". Though he is, obviously, a director who is casting his own film.

Personally, I don't think we should dismiss youth out of hand (though a certain amout of scepticism is wise :o).

I suppose I admire his initiative, and, to be honest, I seem to remember friends of mine attempting to direct films around the age of 16/17 (and there are many who take part in Summer School courses etc.) - there is no reason why he may not have some genuinely good ideas and latent talent. Of course, the essence of really good directing is experience, and it is unlikely that, at 15, this will be anything other than his first major foray into the world of directing - so, it may also be the piece on which he makes all his mistakes. The more work I do, the more I like to be convinced that my director knows his/her business, because it can become a drain on energy and commitment to have to help teach the director how to get the results he/she wants - that should not be the position the actor is put in vis-a-vis the director, in my opinion!

Still and all, the most bemusing aspect to me was that he appears to be casting now and yet won't turn over until 2011 - this all seems to be putting the cart before the horse, as so much can change in two years. What if his actors get other jobs in the meantime? What if all his plans fall through? If anything, *this* suggests to me that the guy hasn't thought through the ramifications of the project properly - on the other hand, if he's paying a promised retainer, then he might well be able to keep people on side for years! I'd be interested to see the website!

Fair enough - have looked at the website now, and got the impression that he seems to have his head fairly well screwed on for a 15 year old. Needs someone to proof read his copy, though!

I can only assume, given what the website says, that he wasn't actually inviting auditionees to a casting call at this stage, but only sending out information to inform interested parties to look out for coming opportunities, which I guess is fair enough.

A little difficult to judge either his or the film's true merits, of course, without seeing a script or any previous gallery of work.

He certainly seems to want to shoot something of length (as opposed to a short) and to dedicate himself to it in the manner of a low budget film maker, so my support goes out to him for initiative, if nothing else.

oh god yeh Lee, i wasn't implying that he doesn't know what he is doing at 15. And he probably will make a good film!

I was just wondering whether anyone would get in trouble for arranging to meet up with 15 year old boys off the internet really! to put it blunt.. :-S

i just want to add that i think it is admirable that someone of such a young age is eager to make his mark in the film industry and i really wish him well!

I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression of my views from my posts on this thread, i was just open for discussion on the matter really.
