Hi rebecca,
I am not going to huddersfield but have been before and worked for Impact, they are lovely people and the audition is good fun. Lots of games and just a relaxed day. They always have lots of work on offer too. Good luck and have fun. x

Hi girls, I actually Live in Huddersfield..some extra money would be good right now..could you tell me more about this 'Impact theatre' please? I worked for 'Cragrats a few months back, is it similar work? I would be interested in attending the training if it is a open invitation. with thanks, Russ

Cragrats are the main company in Huddersfield and the longest running one. People who worked for Cragrats stole their ideas, from this Impact formed and now from Impact a new company also based in Huddersfield has now formed called Theatre in.

Hope this helps xx

Quite a few people who work for cragrats then go on to do Impact aswell. Theatre in are fairly new and they all generally do the same thing. I dont think they do open auditions you have to be invited to one but they advertise regularly in all the usual places. They are always looking for people because they have such a large number of tours going out all the time.
good luck.

Always interested to hear that Impact and Cragrats are lovely companies who treat their actors so well!

However I do wonder why they are not working on Equity contracts yet, given that they employ hundreds of actors and do corporate training for many blue chip clients.

Having done many extremely well paid corporate training events directly for blue chip clients myself I can't help but think Impact and Cragrats must have very healthy turnovers and could not possibly claim that they are to poor to be Equity companies.

Cragrats, Impact and TheatreIn are all working under Equity contracts. However their payments are often lower than other companies doing the same work. But it must be said that these companies do work on different contracts since for two of them if not all they insist that you are available when required and offer accommodation to stay in whilst you are working for them.Often the pay is PAYE if the contract is longer than 3 months (unlikely that though!). They ARE lovely people although Impact (for one) audition in Huddersfield almost on a weekly basis and have more than a hundred actors that they have seen. Some never hear from them again!!!
The 'audition' is a full 8 hours with workshops, games and performance. For the older ones amongst us it is a physically gruelling day.
Now that they are auditioning in London we may find that we are inundated with loads of strange accents in the pubs around Holmfirth and Honley! I'll warn the locals!

Dear Alan

Glad to hear Cragrats, & Impact now work on Equity contracts. I have worked with lots of very nice actors who have worked for Cragrats, & Impact. So I had a bee in my bonnet about them not being an Equity company when they employ so many actors.

Did your Equity branch have some influence in them now working on Equity contracts?

Cheers
TRACEY

I think that it was the influence of one of my predecessors, Finetime Fontaine, who originally put Nigel Jones, the Area Organiser, in touch with them. I cannot take any credit for that.
I may be slighly erroneous when I say they work under Equity Contracts but they certainly operate with Equity's blessings.
I auditioned for them about seven years ago and found them to be ,even then, pleasant and helpful (although I am too old for TIE). That was when they were working out of a house and barn conversion in Emley. Now they have a state of the art mill complex on the Hill above Homfirth.
It appears that most of the other companies who do almost the same thing in the area were originally members of CragRats. (The name comes from the rock climbing antics of the first company people!)

I auditioned for Theatre In a couple of months back and although the audition was long it was a lot of fun. I recieved an email after a couple of weeks saying i had been successful and they would be in touch with work as and when it comes up. I was just saying a couple of days ago i hadn't heard anything from them since then but i got a phone call yesterday booking me for a month long tour in Jan/feb which is cool. They were a lovely bunch as well so i'd say it's definately worth auditioning folks. Best of Luck!

Hi Rebecca,

Could you please tell me more about Impact. When are the auditions? Is it a workshop? or do you need a monologue?
I've just moved close to Huddersfield, so would appreciate if you could give me some information on whats going on up here.
Thanks

I've worked for Impact and Theatre In for the last couple of years. In fact i'm doing a job for Theatre in starting next week!
Just wish I had more jobs lined up...anyone have any ideas of castings coming up?

Good luck with your audition, Roise (if she takes the audition) is lovely.
