Is anyone finding that castings/auditions are very few and far between?

Some ppl say it will pick up after The World Cup?

It's interesting you should ask this as I was just thinking the same myself. Also at the same time as there seems to be less and less paid work I am getting emails from castwed about new agents opening for actors. But I do not see how these agency's can make a profit or even stay in business for very long, when there is now so little work for actors.

I wonder if the industry has reached saturation point both with too many actors and agents, and what will happen over the next 10 years.

Hi Shelles,
Yup,it sure is quiet out there.
When i spoke to my agent yesterday they said they were doing motivational excersises in the morning to get themselves in the mood for what is a hard slog at the moment. That can't be good when your agent has to motivate themselves before a days work!
So i echo the other replies so far.Auditions are about as rare as Rocking Horse Shit at the moment.
Hopefully when France win the world cup things will pick up.

Its been quiet for ages, everyone is saying it. I dont know why though, its a mistery, first it was because of easter, now its because of the world cup then soon it will be because of Edinburgh..then xmas..sigh...

A friend of mine said his agent was really interested in signing a fresh new talent that he thought would do very well but said he couldnt in the end cos there just isn't the work out there.

Apparently our professional enemy the 'reality tv show' and its nasty cousin 'real life show' are taking over the shedules and with ITV saying theyre going to start focusing more on these and less on two part dramas etc i think its safe to say its gonna be quiet for some time.

Any chance someone wants to start up a new network that focuses only on quality stuff for actors. It should only cost a couple of million!

Sigh.

Still wont give in though!

Hello Shelle

I though it was just me think it was quiet. Though think seemed to be picking up.

Creating our own reality show would be hilarious. Wonder who would take the Nicky "precocious brat" role or Lea "suspicous neurotic silicon enhansed" role.

All The Best

Alex

I personally think that reality tv has killed the profession... since the many BB's and Strictly Come this and that has hit the screens the acting work for trained professionals has dwindled. Whats happened to the decent drama's from the BBC and proper tv shows where you didn't have to be societies defunct to be involved?? (ok had my rant....)

Decent scripts and projects are severly lacking thats to the reality fly syndrome.

Why do so many actors WATCH reality tv?
Let's boycott it...

Unfortunately it's a case of supply and demand, more people prefer to watch the reality shows etc so therefore TV companies put more on. Plus as well, the papers love it too, which adds to the extra hype.

I'm pleased to say that I've not watched one episode of BB. Have seen snippets but personally, I can't see what all the fuss is about. Would rather turn the TV off and read a good book......................ok, more likely to pop down the pub!

Oooo my first post!
There's actually an article on this in The Stage today which is rather interesting which looks at whether there's less work or the acting profession is just over-subscribed.
Have to agree that reality tv is taking over, but I'm irritatingly hooked to BB, HELP!

Spoke to my agent and asked what it's like 'out there' He started talking about how nice and sunny the weather was. When I interuppted and told him i'd meant the acting world he replied - 'There isn't one anymore. It simply doesn't exist.' I'm assuming that means it's quiet at the mo.

if we want to work we have to get these reality production companies to change there minds
so i am asking are you going to sit there and wait and hope for change or do something like i do
if we keep telling them over and over again
that things need to change , in the end there will
but one voice will not make it change that quick
so is anyone here going to do what i do i
to get , make change or are we going to sit here
and keep on talking and complain about it
with out doing nothing

well ?

if we do nothing , nothing happens , do something
and something will happen

one voice is quite , more voices will be heard
more voices still and things will change

well cathrine thats is one way to start and i have never watched any reality tv either
but
if more of you did what i do by e-mailing
these companies telling them that they
are responible for putting you out of work
for
not haveing the imagination to try something new
, diffrent
something to make the public watch tv

if all of us constaly everyday e-mail these companies untill there change

if you do nothing
nothing will happen

do something , something will happen
