Hi, yeah I was thinking of going to this audition. I read in the stage that the character/s they are auditioning for are "Hobbits" (don't actually know what that is as iv never seen the films). Apparently they are auditioning both male and female actors/dancers so im assuming the "Hobbits" are the ensemble as opposed to one character.

Do you know if they are auditioning for dancers or just actors/singers?

Just checked the advert on The Stage Website again. For anyone who is interested, this is the criteria:

Open Call on Monday 18th September at Front of House entrance of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
Registration time is 9.30am

Only those who meet the criteria below will be auditioned:

Male and Female Actors/Singers aged 16-35 years.
Must be under 5'7" in bare feet

Prepare two songs to show vocal range and bring sheet music.
Bring photo and CV.
If recalled, there will be a movement audition later in the day.

As usual, no hobbitts under 35 - and I can supply my own hairy feet! Think what they're missing. Oh well, gues it'll have to be The Deserted Hobbitt Village' where all the old ones have been spirited away by Saruman.

*SIGH* I'm the perfect size for a hobbit, being 5ft nothing. I just can't sing......(well, not if they want their windows intact still!)

I think so - 2 songs and then dancing later if they keep you on. No idea what styles or anything though...

Will see you there! xx

I've got absolutly no idea about songs :( Would normally say something related but that would be...elves and wizards! Hmm...nothing springs to mind.

Anyone got any ideas?!

I'm thinking of doing the song "Popular" from Wicked. It's very quircky and has lots of character, plus its probably the nearest I'm going to get to a song thats from a musical based on witches and wizards etc. Not sure about a second song yet though.

Maybe you should try something from Wicked? (Just don't do "Popular" lol)

Lol! You're safe there (well from me) "Popular" isn't my kinda song, me more an elphaba! haha. My trying to figure out songs for a panto at the moment, will get to LOTR selection after that casting...

My biggest fear for this musical is that it will be a 2product" type affiar where all the people who are not clones of the stars of the movie trilogy will be ignored...

we will have to wait and see......

I haven't seen Wicked. Maybe I should look it up...promise not the same song though!

I really need to get some songs together for this sort of thing. Is there anywhere to get sheet music thats not really expensive?!

Will let you know if I think of anything.. xx

(P.S The last thing I went to like this, loads of people auditioning came dressed as the part...do you think they'll be a few orcs/hobbits/elves hovering outside hehe..?!)

No doubt you will get hobbits coming trekkie stylee (as in dressed in the garb like the mad star trek fans who have home made costumes! haha)

As for 'Wicked', there are some great songs there, but it is the 'in' show at the moment, so no doubt a lot of people will be doing 'Wicked' songs, which makes me shy away from chosing one from the show, but if I am stuck, then 'Wicked' is an option.

I dont think that WICKED is the right choice for the audition, personally. Its far better to choose something that fits more with the theme of LOTR and something that hasnt been done to death. Its suicide to perform something that is the "new" sensation.

I agree that "Wicked" is the 'in' show at the moment, and there may well be a lot of people doing songs from the show. However, I don't want to sound like I'm boasting here or anything, but "Popular" is actually a really hard song to sing and not everyone is able to do it well!!

The advert for "Lord of the Rings" said to choose songs that show your vocal ability and your voice in gereral, so thats what I'm going to do. I have a good feeling about "Popular", I enjoy singing it and it's one of the strongest songs I have in my repetoire, so I'm going to do it whether it's from a popular (get it?!) show or not.

Yeah I agree with Blake, it is usually a no-no to do the new 'it' show, but then if you are really comfortable with a song and can do it well why not. Better that then to do a second rate performance with something else I suppose. They will see within the first few bars if you have the right sound quality and presence they require.
