Racism within the industry

Going through many audition calls, most of them without any reason have specified even the racial backgound of the actor. Seems we are stepping into racism again. I mean can not a arabic or a turkish couple have problem in court. It's time we all rise our voices and stop the hidden and quiet racism that nobody dare to talk about, of the fear of being laughed at, or not listened to and neglected. Now correct me on this if i am wrong, but isn't that true, that in usa, they are not allowed to publicise auditions whith racial references?
Is it only we follow that country exclusivley on invasion of other countries, but let their inspiring aspects pass our by/

Well I do you think this thread is coming to a natural close but it's certainly been an interesting and useful discussion.
Equity have several specialist committees that work for equality within our industry. The specialist committees will be looking for new members in spring 2009.
I think it would be good if more younger people got involved with their union, so I hope some of the people who posted on this thread will consider standing for the specialist committees when election time comes around next year.
More information about these committees can be found on the equity website: www.equity.org.uk
Also Equity now has its own discussion forum in the members only area of the Equity website.

I've had enough of it too but I note my last comment was not printed. Sat in makeup today with yet another young black girl in a Victorian drama. Obviously there were more black people living in England in Victorian times than I realised or are the casting people just bending over backwards to be PC?
Enough already !!!
There were loads of black people in Victorian London and earlier.
I dont know if I am off topic here, but I think my question will fit in here.
I have noticed that there is no mixed raced option on Casting Call Pro. I have had to put myself as white. But I am mixed half white half afro. I am stuck in the middle there should be a option. Or am I missing something?

Lynesy that's a good point well made.
They certainly have a mixed race option on Spotlight.
So given that request for a mixed-race option would not be in the least bit contentious, I think you should just ring or e-mail the lads who run CCP and I'm sure they would have no trouble adding that option the next time they update their system.

just thought i'd add this because it always annoys me.
i'm a white 21 year old male yet i so often get e-mail's from spotlight saying "a new job matching your skills has been posted!"
however when i look it's asking for a black 40 year old woman!

lol! well neil i think that just goes to show how un-racist the industry is!
I think it shows how versatile you are.
its one thing looking older/younger, but looking a different sex or race is quite a challenge!

Yes mixed race does'nt exist on CCP.
I have complained that I cannot specify my ethnic origins or "look" but I was told to deal with it. So I can be black or white...as you can see I am neither and both!!!
You have got to be kidding me! You don't see me complaining that I can't apply for the role of Simba in the Lion King. I would love to but I know thats it not possible. If the part is written for a specific race then so be it I'm not going to cry about it. So just stop being so stupid!
It would be nice to say wot background your from on your profile! So that you apply for the right parts.
