Voice Over jobs

Hello-I'm a voice over talent in the U.S. I've been on Mandy for 18 months now. I have not gotten any jobs and was wondering if anyone knows, on average, how many voice over talent are potentially applying for any one job. When I get an email from Mandy of a job match, I apply to most of them, although some are not even close to what I have on my profile, such a Spanish speaking male, (I'm a white female). What are the odds of having my audition heard by anybody? It's hard to believe, given my success on other platforms, that I haven't gotten one job. I had one false start with someone who wanted IVR but then they said they were not doing it. Another just said thank you for applying but we've chosen someone else. That's it. That is all the communication I have received. I was wondering what other's experience has been and maybe some tips for being heard. Am I in competition with thousands of other VO talent when I submit an audition or is it under 100, for example? I've asked Mandy but they did not have an answer for me. They said they don't know. I'm ready to cancel my subscription with them but thought I'd reach out and see what others have experienced before I do. Thanks so much.

Hi Jono, thanks for responding to my post. Are you having success on the Mandy platform? How long have you been on the platform and have you gotten any jobs from it? Thanks, Rita

I have noticed in my short time being here, there are not many postings of VO gigs, hopefully that changes.

Hi Ty, thank for responding. I'll just have decide if the $8/month is worth it. So far, no.

Hi Rita: I feel your pain. I've sought work on Mandy for a year or so, usually submitting 1 or 2 auditions per week for jobs that seem appropriate. No bookings yet, even for those that seemed just right for me. I agree that it's frustrating to have no idea how many other people have applied for a job -- partly to get a sense of whether it's worth adding my app to the mix. One advantage of Mandy is that membership is cheap compared to the big P2Ps, and I know people who have spent $500+ on them with no bookings. Competition on the big P2Ps can be higher and a member's ROI not necessarily better. And clearly from your website, you are an experienced pro whose work justifies booking. Wasting a lot of time fruitlessly auditioning is frustrating and I wish I had a good solution, but I don't.

I at least have had a couple of responses, and both were good, no job yet, but a potential one coming.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I got my first "order" yesterday and I'm pretty sure it's a scam. They said they are sending a check for payment of the recording I sent them. Then I got anther email saying there was an error and the check will be for more money than what the agreed upon price was, of $50. They said they'll just have credit with me for future work. They didn't say how much the check was going to be for. The scam will be when I deposit the check, they'll say I need to send the overpayment to them. That it turns out they don't need my services any longer. Once I send them the overpayment amount, their check will be cancelled. It's a scam I heard about but it looks like they're targeting VO now. At the very least people will get stuck with a bank fee for a non-sufficient fund check. Just thought I'd let you know. I sent an email today to Mandy customer service about it. Hopefully they'll alert people.

Editorial Comment Thank you for raising your concerns. We are looking into this issue as a matter of urgency.

Rita: The “overpayment” is a sure sign of a scam. Glad you didn’t fall for it. I appreciate your notifying Mandy.

I've seen that scam before. Mandy will need tondo a better job of verifying these clients before allowing them to use this service.

I've been with Mandy and whatever they formerly called themselves, for well over eight years, became a paying member for nearly a year, and either way, nothing. No interests, responses, nothing. I was about to upgrade once again but after seeing this page, perhaps I'll change my mind. Thanks, Rita for sharing your concern with the community.

Thanks for your message. Yes I’m cancelling my membership. It sounds like it’s not working for you either. Best of luck.

Sorry to hear of your trouble Rita!
I have been here for nearly a year and audition for Everything with only 2 response's in all that time. Neither was a go. I also am wondering if Mandy is a good fit for VO"s. Glad to hear that Ty's got one in the works. An eye on Mandy going forward. Good luck!

I've been paying for Mandy for a couple of years and booked a paying job about 2 months ago. It was a character voice for a podcast that could lead to more work if there is interest in continuing the show. Also, I think the producers would use me for other projects if they thought I was appropriate or even recommend me to others if they were asked. Another somewhat encouraging thing is that also in the last few months a couple of the agencies that I auditioned for actually responded with kind and encouraging words regarding my submissions. Usually you hear nothing but since they took the time to respond I'm hoping that means that I just wasn't the right fit but they may keep me in mind for other projects. At least that's what I want to take from it.

That’s great you’re getting work. I got one other order and they never paid me and Mandy didn’t do anything about it so I’m not sure why I’m having such a difficult time but I think I’m gonna move on. All the best to you.

Editorial Comment Hi Rita,

I'm sorry to hear that you have not been paid for work you have completed. Please provide more details to emails@mandy.com and we will be able to investigate. We will do all that we can to ensure you are paid.

Kind regards,

Max

Disappointing site at best. But don't burn any bridges!!! Ty, you are a phenomenal talent! ...And Rita, never surrender a fully produced work without at least a down payment!

Hi James,
Thanks for your message.
I agree I should have gotten more info before I did the job. I don’t understand how it all works apparently. I really thought they were hiring me. They sent me a message via Mandy with a script and direction.
I submitted the recording and then crickets so I don’t really understand what happened there. Mandy Said they look into it but then I never heard from them again about it.
Thanks for responding. Take care
Rita

One thing I've done to prevent someone from using my audition without paying me is I will record it from my cell phone which is not a very good quality of sound if they like it and ask for a better quality from my audio system then I ask them if they liked the audition, I can guarantee a better quality version if I am hired..

Same problem. All I got was for one with a status of "being considered." And then nothing further; it showed after that it was closed. I have a feeling my audition was put to their use.
