Hi there, I have just read a lot of the comments regarding the expo - I would like to say whilst I agree with the timing - they needed to open the doors at 9.30 so we could get in and ready for our first seminar at 10, and there needed to be more representation from the area of the business for us actors who have been trying for 10 years and are already members of spotlight, ccp, equity etc.

For the first ever show I had a fabulous time, I did the John Bryne seminar at 10 where he gave some very good marketing advice, I had booked a £20 headshots with Michael Boydon which have turned out very well I am updating my pics at the moment and am able to use all of the 20 shots - which really suprised me.
Yes the screen test I did was fantastic definatly £10 well spent and I got talking to lots of likeminded actors.
I do agree that had I not booked these seminars and headshots in advance and had a plan of the day leaving me a couple of hours in the middle and at the end for visiting the stands and watching the live performances, I might have been dissappointed but they can only go from strength to strength and I hope it inspires bigger and better things in the future and lots more casting directors and agents get on board for the next few years.

So well done Actors Expo lets all get behind them and hope that showing actors will turn and support Agents will think it worthwhile - there were so many of us fab actors just waiting to be discovered!

I went along. Yes, it's the first year, but I too was disheartened not to see more useful stands for the majority who are already members of CCP, Spotlight, Equity etc..
Fenix, you have got the best ideas I have heard. I think you should contact Remi directly and guide Actor Expo 2 in the right direction - you would make the 2nd one a force to be reckoned with and a tool none of us can afford to be without.

I was disappointed with the day.It seem geered for newcommers-yet there were lot's of older pros, like myself who already know the ropes.I attended one workshop which turned out to be purely a lecture!Doing is learning-so let's have hands on workshops, next time.

I'd got to Fenix's expo- that sounds fantastic!

Sounds like it was a good start- I'd definately think about attending next year.
But I agree about the day- a saturday does seem a bad day to me. Most actors if they're not in shows are working in the leisure industry; bars, shops, promo work, etc where getting a day off on the busiest day of the week isn't easy. We don't all work in call centres!
Plus it certainly makes sense for industry people to attend a weekday rather than a weekend when they can come from the office instead of home.

I attended this event and like others was disappointed by the lack of exhibitors but also by the poor layout and floor design. The exhibitor stalls were crammed together so if there was a popular stall you could not get past or reach the neighbouring stall. There was more space available in the hall so this could have been prevented.
I was told that those that did arrive at 10am for the first workshops found that the buidling was not opened to anyone until 10am which is why some workshops were running late. NOT all the workshops were running late. (I attended two myself that did run to time). However we were contantly being told in the main hall that ALL workshops were running late and so many people missed the start (or even the whole) of the ones they had signed up for.
I have run conferences for other organsiation and appreciate how much work went in behind the scenes (and know how easy it is to criticise after hte event) but there were a few glaring errors that should have been avoided - stating you had to be at your workshop 15 minutes before to ensure entry meant that many of us were forced to reduce our workshop options - which was a great shame - spacing them with gaps between would have allowed more choice.
Let's hope there will be a similar event next year - with more of everything and a wider range of exhibitors.

I couldn't make it but will def. try next year. Hopefully they'll have more for non-newbies, but I kind of like just being able to spend time with other actors outside work and auditions. (Part of why I'm delurking -- this board seems so nice and there's so many um not nice out there.) Anyway hi!

I want to say well done to Remi too!
Considering she did it on her own, it was the first time and the event was free for us; I think she did an amazing job!
Strong from the success of this one, next year should be better, it'll be easier to attract exhibitors etc...
I had a good time, met up with friends, the atmosphere was lovely. I also wish there had been more stuff for advanced actors, but overall I'm happy I went.
I'm looking forward to next year's.
