Firstly i apologise if i have written this twice im beginning to hate my laptop!!!

Anyways i hope all you guys and gals are good and not getting too soaked with the rain!!

Right well i've realised that im desperate to do some acting to keep me motivated and thought about putting on a play. Im thinking it would be a great way for us to meet, find a play and put it on to a paying audience and enjoy what we love.

If you are interested let me know, if you can think of plays you'd like to put on let me know that too,

Hope you are all well.

Right after having a pen explode on me - im not having a good day! I have now got 4 people who have asked to sign them in, find me at the reception those lucky few. If we find that noone else is a member and can't get signed in then we'll go to the nearest pub or something.

Those luck few are Lucy, Cheska, Jo and Audy.

Hi Guys

I hope you are all having a good weekend. Just to say I don't know if any of you are willing to maybe do a new play that hasn't been published but I have a friend who is an actor and works alot at the Latchmere. He has a few ideas up his sleeve as to plays and where to perform etc. He can't come on Tuesday but im going to meet up with him next week to discuss ideas. I just wanted to put it by you the idea of a newly written play - cheaper to do too!!

Just butting in on this one a bit randomly... :)

It's always much cheaper to have some new writing to perform for the simple reason that getting performance rights never comes into the equation...

And, of course, that also explains why so many classical revivals get done on the fringe...something written in 1782 can't possibly be in copyright...

If it's a good script, then new writing could well be the way to go...

I think the essential thing is that people can afford to put in cash in the first place. It's not so much about getting money back. Whenever you sign up for a profitshare, I figure you're not going to see any money back. The truth is that either a) your play is going to have be on for several months to recoup monies if the seats are cheap [and that isn't going to happen] or b) you're going to have charge high ticket prices for attendance, which is (generally) counter - productive.

My advice: try and get a venue that charges relatively cheap rates of hire (obvious), try and do more than a week's worth of performance, try and get the cheapest option on what to perform (i.e. new writing might be the way to go), try and get a venue with a small (ish) amount of seats (because if you can get 40 people to attend in a 35 seat auditorum, you're doing better than 40 in a 100 seater!), and sell the thing like a motherf**ker - working like this, it's possible to break even (cause I've been in companies that managed that). Whether you can actually make money...well... there has to be a first time...
