Casting for a Female

Alan Brent
Actor

There is a Director in London who is looking for a specific kind of Female actor. She must be 5'10''(or so) tall and athletic. Dark hair, dark eyes and vulnerable yet tough. Capable of portraying violence on men and yet carrying the whole feature film as the lead character. Some neccessary nudity is involved but think Kiera Knightley rather than 'Baisse Moi' or '9 Songs'!
I cannot understand why he has had so much difficulty filling the role but he is very particular on the 'right' actress for this major part.
It's paid work and we're professional actors!!
Comments or suggestions please?

Sounds like a fantastic role. I am suprised people aren't jumping at it. I would love to have a go, however, slightly to short I feel.
Good luck though!

Did he ask Jennifer Garner if she can do a British accent? Because the character breakdown you give sounds exactly like her character in Alias, and looks exactly like her too! Would this director like Alias by any chance?

The film is to be shot in Prague for the mediaeval section then jump to London for the contemporary scenes.
Understanding of language as spoken by those generations is neccessary and the accent needs to be genuinely English. So I hope that answers the question?

I was only joking re. Jennifer Garner, I just thought character breakdown was a faithful portrait of her character, and also physically. I'm sure it's just un uncanny coincidence!

Too short and too old alas :-))

I'm perfect for this in every way- dark hair, lots of experience of violence, classic accent, experience in Mediaeval stuff (I can even spell it!)
But I think at 5'6 I'm a touch short (although I look taller than I am). Happy to wear heels... was recently up for a similarly rufty-turfty role as I work with the police...

Put in a word, eh? I'd love to go to Prague!!!

Oh, I might know someone!
There's a lovely lass called Emma Hartley who's six foot tall. She's with the same agent as me, but I'm not sure if she's now blonde (she used to be a brunette). Am sure she'd shange it back!

Too short but you're never too old!!!
This is more than a 'rufty tufty role' too. This woman bites the throat out of people. She is a seriously violent but visibly innocent person.
Please only contact me through personal contact rather than on the thread if you have any suggestions for the actress. That way I'm not going from one piece to another. I'm willing to discuss it openly but for one to one it's not ideal.
Please remember..I am not the casting director. I'm only helping him track down the ideal actress to play this major part in his film.

Hi Sally,
Thank you for suggesting me - it's a small world! I have to say, though, although I'm tall, I'm the biggest weed in the world - I'm sure I'd never convince anyone I could rip someone's throat out!
:-)

If he decides to rethink the character and go with blonde and 5ft 2 - I'm your woman, ripping out throats is a daily occurrence for me...

Hi Alan
I'm with Emma on this, if he should change the casting to fair hair, I'm there. Would be delighted to rip throats out and then look as though butter wouldn't melt!

Sorry, I meant Helen! Apologies Emma!

I'm sorry. He will NOT compromise on height and colouring. It is totally integral to the plot.
As I said, it is a major feature and the person playing this character MUST meet all criteria as laid out.
I have had a lot of interested parties contact me on Personal Message.
The part is not yet filled and auditions are being arranged.
Please only contact me direct if you feel you meet ALL criteria.
Thank to all.

Forgive me if I'm speaking out of turn but isn't this a rather odd way to go about casting? Especially if it's for a lead role in a major feature as you say...

You are not speaking 'out of turn' in any way. The director is having difficulty finding precisely the right actress to play this part.
He is searching her out from many other sources but has not used CCP for whatever reason.
I feel that this is an opportunity that members of CCP can get a 'look in' and have got his clearance to do it.
He wants to make sure that he is not inundated with inappropriate approaches from actresses who feel that he might compromise on her criteria. He Won't.
Therefore, since I nam up for the role of 'Father' to the character and since I don't want the shooting schedule to be delayed too long I have taken direct action in order to speed up the process and, hopefully, give the CCP members a chance.
Does that answer your question fully?

I actually thought about that too, I thought admin here didn't allow castings to be post in the forum for some reason... Why not simply put the casting in the casting call section?
