I sold a prop for a major movie, any advice how to approach companies next?

James William Abell
Art Director

Hello, I am an artist/designer, I mainly make my own art work. However, recently I sold a model I made a few years ago to a major movie production feature film (will say when released).
Its on my CV now. I like films, and have been featured in animation film festivals etc. I would love to sell more pre made props and also get into designing making props with my extensive 3D modelling, 3D printing and traditional skills.
Any advice? I dont live in London but go there a lot for work and can relocate.
What I am doing now is contacting prop/film design companies with this experience on my CV.

Should I also contact film production companies directly about my skills as well as prop companies?
If so does anyone know the job role names, ie prop buyer etc for whom I should contact in feature films?

Any tips would be great, thank you, James.

I just sold the prop and the movie hasn't come out so I guess I will wait until it is actually in the movie. I have proof they purchased it and have an idea of the scene they are using it in. However, no garuntee it will be in the final shot obviously due to how movies are cut and what is decided on the day etc.

James, firstly, get yourself credited on IMDB for the work that you've done. Then you can use it as a springboard to approach companies. Also, provide images of your work and build your online portfolio. God bless! :)
