I am a freelance stage technican working in theatre. I have previously graduated from drama school since 2020, where I had specialised in technical management. It’s been about 15 months approx I have been working professionally in the industry.
But I have 9 years experience building up my experience.
I am writing to ask for some careers advice / guidance please. I want to build up my experience and gain automation experience, hydraulics, machinery and working on shows where a traps are being used, as I would like to progress further in my career.
I have attended so many interviews but am not being successful and they keep saying lack of experience. Gain more professional experience, supervising a team, as a casual how can I get experience of supervising a team? I seem to be in a catch 22 situation. Being a casual stage technician restricts me on what I can do.
I am also in addition looking to expand into TV & Film and I was wondering if my skills in theatre as a stage technician are transferable to the TV & Film industry?
Any advice, guidance and suggestions would be very much appreciated.
