We Just Dont Get on!!!!

Hi all,

I thought it would be quite interesting to start a thread about that one subject that NO ONE has yet broached-

our relationships to other actors.

This is the place to share stories and thoughts why actors do or do not get on. Just dont mention the show you did or the actors name if you have a negative experience because that would be really nasty and the thread would get closed.

Well it's been a long time since I've written anything on here, so would like to say a hearty hello to everyone and hope you all had a great Christmas.
I've read this thread with interest and couldn't help notice I could relate to it from both sides of the equation, and I am pretty sure, if we stop and think about it and if we're completely honest, that we are all guilty of doing some of these things at one time or another.
I was brought up in retail and food, also living in North Yorkshire, my folks called everyone love, sweetheart, Sir etc all the time because customers don't come up to you with their hands out giving names, so that kinda rubbed off on me, though I wouldn't ever say that's what actors did, that's just weird!
In conversations regarding past work and experiences? Simply put, if people don't ask about them then they wouldn't have to endure hearing all about them.
This is very competitive and we all carry ego's whether we'd like to admit it or not (and I am not talking inflated ego's) and sometimes we clash. The human nature point that was brought up earlier is a definite player, you take an instant dislike to someone, you don't know why, so you find something to dislike about them and run with it trying to give substance to your initial decision.
I like to get on with people, I suppose I can be too much at times as we all can. I have worked with some amazing people and some not so. Those I cannot stand are those that cannot see past their own reflection and can't remember that there're more than just them on stage or infront of the camera. I don't think we're all supposed to get along personally but professionally? Those that cannot shouldn't do it.

It isn't just actors. I'm talking to two make-up people right now for a project. The one that seems most experienced at what I need has some attitude, even over email. I could see her being a real pain. Yet I could also see her being very good at what she does.

I think I'll look at the other one's prosthetic experience a little closer.

I think that we should keep this going, it seems some people really need to vent off some steam and plus it is really interesting! Lilo x

We all love a good bitch! That's certainly true of most actors. Hey we can't love everyone, and to be any good at this job you have to put yourself in vulnerable situations which doesn't always bring out the best in people. There is one thing that gets on my tits, which is when you're doing a show, those people that constantly go on about how nervous they are.....well tough tits love, we're all trying to keep control of our bowels, but going on about it doesn't help.....So I tend to take on the role of the one who is confident and in control, or they get freaked out more. To me being a drama queen about such things is an abdication of personal responsibility. That sad, i know there have been times in rehearsal, when my neurosis can be irritating, so I can't be too precious. Mind you I'm a miserable sod, so I also get annoyed by happy clappy singy dancy panto warm up people ....I'm doing Chekhov..i don't want to hear you sing 'barbie girl'!

Caveat: Actors, Crew, Directors all annoy me a lot less than all the people i've worked with in other professions!
