10 minute monologue needed

I'm performing in a monologue showcase event, and have to find a 10 minute piece to do. I'm having trouble finding something this long, especially as it will also be performed as part of a festival, and has to be family friendly.

I'm looking either for an entire monologue, a play with several pieces I can put together, or a piece of prose that can easily be adapted. Any suggestions? I've had to shelve my first idea of Christopher Durang, and now I'm stumped!

Maybe look at one-woman plays instead? There's a great collection by Dario Fo and Franca Rame.

There always Joyce Grenfell and Alan Bennent but both of these are REALLY famous but probably more 'family friendly' than Dario Fo or Franca Rame...

Then there's Steven Berkoff - but he's very sweary.

I googled and found this:-

http://www.10-minute-plays.com/cast_size/plays_1_woman.html

It might be helpful but I don't know how good or PG they are. Perhaps if you like something you could adapt it...a story perhaps?

Good luck babe!

I did think about Joyce Grenfell, but I'm not sure if it's quite what I'm looking for. I'll check out the other playwrights mentioned, going to spend a day in my local drama school library! Thanks!

Huge monologues for your age in Genet's 'The Maids.'

There's always Spoonface Steinberg by Lee Hall. It's a bit of a challenge because she's a young autistic girl, but that full play runs at an hour... so you could find an excerpt from that. The section mentioning the butterflies is particularly poignant.

"Topless" by Miles Tredinnick, it's very cool and very funny too if that's your prefered genre? x

Mmmm

Seems obvious to me - but I don't want to sound like a pervert...

There is some great stuff for women in the vagina monologues - I only know as a friend of mine was in the show and it was fantastic - albeit that i was only one of about six guys in a 1000 plus auditorium.

Worked for me - I thought the show was fantastic!

All the best.

Oh, and before anyone says - its a family show.

I have a daughter who is eleven years old, goes to private school and can tell you more about bodily parts, their functions, protection AND the birds and bees than I will ever know.

That was being polite - the biological terms she used would make me blush if I wrote them on here.

Oh to be young again.......

I would reccomend 'Bombshells' By Joanna Murray Smith, they are very. I did a monologue from this at a sowcase and it went down a treat.

Hope you find what you need

Try Immaculate, by Oliver Lansley. A lot less frequently done than the others.

Incidentally: do they really MEAN ten minutes? that's an awfully long time....
