A little effort goes a long way...

James Abbey
Actor

Dear all,
I just wanted to simply say how many applications we get for Grays that are addressed Dear Sir/Madam, To Whom it may concern, Hi or not even any greeting at all. On our information page it clearly shows all our names and any one you choose to use when contacting us is fine. It is on there because we don't like to feel that we are just part of a big mailshot. We like it that little bit more personal.

Kind Regards

James

I did the same again, I can see the Irony in that one. I hope this post is correct so that I can stop correcting myself. I bet it looks like I have OCD on this one.

Calm down dear ... calm down ... my, you do fly off the handle, don't you ?.
Firstly .. I did say 'judge' was too strong a word. Secondly ... I, repeat,I ... tend to look at the quality of the letter and its contents. I, in no way inferred that you should follow suit or, that it should be a general rule for all.
The way you run your business is entirely up to you, and damn good luck to you in doing so.
You started a thread and no doubt expected people to reply, which they did. I to replied .. WITH MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION !!!.

I started the thread simply because we have had about 70 apps in the last two weeks with the majority not addressed in our preferred manner. I was simply dropping a hint and giving a heads up to people who were applying. I know this is a discussion board but I wasn't really looking for debate more so trying to get the message across to people who require the info in the quickest and most convenient way.

Kind Regards

James

Hi everyone,

Tis me again...I know how emotional such a subject can be.

James, I can understand your feelings and I must say I wish all agencies were as passionate about us Actors - and I can only say that all our fellow colleagues represented by you are lucky to have you as their agent.

I am not going to speak for any other person on this thread, as they are bold enough and ugly enough to do that for themselves...(and you know who you are...hehe) but, I dont think any malise has been the intention here at anytime.

Both Agents and Actors can be regarded as lacking in communication skills at every level and its thru open and honest discussion on great trade related forums like this that for the first time in the whole of my acting career, I am proud to be associated with and honoured to have such high calibre friends from every walk of the acting profession.

By you explaining your needs and requirements, we 'Actors' get a better understanding of your view of the profession and what we need to do to better ourselves when applying for representation. But sadly, as we all know there is no standard reply to a acting job...otherwise why do we get so many people asking for advice on 'Covering Letters'. Sadly, with the demands of modern life alot of our friends dont have the time to research every application and I must say that a number of computerised job application web pages dont give the individual the opportunity to display the 'real them'.

Anyway, 'Nuff said' please dont shout at me, coz, since I have learnt how to cry (see my previous thread...hehe) any dig at me gets a tearful response.

so come on now...lets all have a team hug...and club together and have a go at Casting Directors instead

Off now to shout at the traffic!!!
Steve

Yo Allan,

what you mean by likewise? Take it you agree ? :) Think we all do.

Just think everyone misunderstood each other on this thread.

Now Sharon, That has just painted a mental picture I wished I had never seen!!!

But it so explains a number of concerns I have had over the years.

haha! Too late! Already thought it, Splat.
I've always said, a little Googling goes a long way. Before the internet was invented, people used to wonder what I meant...
Anyway, what I mean is, it doesn't do any harm to earn a few extra brownie points and get some names and background if you can. So why am I spending my time on forums instead of working in the West End then?!

At first, I thought it was an in-joke between you and Sharon, Splat...!?!?

But as you don't know what it means, it must be an in-joke that you have been left out of...!!!!

Text answers to 'Confused of Stafford' please ensure you have the permission of the mobile phone owner - call charges may differ...

Steve - I think!!!

Obviously there's a party in my head and no-one else is invited!
Maybe my letters to CDs and agents are being equally cryptic- no wonder I'm unemployed...
Now I'm off to dry clean some badgers

At the risk lighting the blue touch paper, why did James just loose it with Alan when it appeared Alan was agreeing with him in page 3(????)

you people kill me!
