A resource for depressed or suicidal actors

Hi all

In my current play, a cast member learnt that a very talented actor he trained with tragically hung himself last week.

No one had a clue he was depressed. He "acted" and his death was all the more shocking.

Clearly this is tragic. There has been a fund and a respite centre established where anyone who is desperate , considering suicide or has an actual plan can go- FREE of charge, get counselling and food and board for a few days. Counsellung is non judgemental.

The link is below to the Maytree Respite Centre. If you can donate, feel free- but more importantly, if you are depressed or suicidal- there are resources.

Don't suffer in silence. Actors are prone and many of us- includinmg myself- have battled with severe depression.the stigma needs to be broken.

Please spread the word.

As actors/ performers we are asked to sail close to the wind, we have to be brave, courageous & invincible. We are our judge, our constant weight of disapproval. Our energy is given freely in order to paint the scene and tell the story. We often feel responsible for all of this and in doing so we keep learning, studying, looking after our physical selves, net working, socializing & pushing. However it can be lonely on the inside, you cant have a healthy body without a healthy mind and you cant have a healthy mind without a healthy body. Clinical depression is a passive aggressive fellow that feeds on the vulnerable and it can not be fought in isolation, the more support, and guidance that can be made available to actors/performers with in our own organisations the better.Mental ill health is just that 'ILL HEALTH'. Feeling free and not freaky to talk about how we feel is key.

Blake - this is wonderful.
thank you.
I have suffered too.
and i also have high functioning BPD.
I think many actors have the latter and go through their iife undiagnosed.
thanks for taking the time to post this
