Actor- Friendly Work!

Nathan Cross
Actor

I'm really struggling to find any work that pays which allows me flexibility to go to auditions. I was working with events staffing company but frankly I need to find something more frequent.

All the usual actor jobs I've never seemed to manage to be any good at them ie call centre work, teaching, selling coupons.

I know some people do temp work, but how does one get into it? I've applied in the past and I hear nothing.

Any suggestions cause frankly I'm stumped!?

Emma,i have five children and do three jobs and acting.I am totally aware of the current economic situation.Everything i said to Nathan was positive.how do you know i dont rent?I have an MBA thats a masters degree in business administration that i got when i was45,I grew up in a council house built a massive turnover company from my garage and started acting when i was 45.I am now 55 and i am far from wealthy and know all about the state this country is in.I havent had a pop at you because i dont know you.Nathan seems like a great guy and accepted he was maybe being a little negative. My kids are in exactly the same position as you may be and from August i need a new part time job so lets all keep positive, get off our arses and get out there(didnt i say that before?)

Nathan, have a look at any local museums that have historical/costumed interpreters/tour guides. More often than not, they hire Actors for those jobs, not just historians....you get scripts and learn the facts as you go.
I'm currently working at the Galleries of Justice museum in Nottingham. It's a fun job, you're still 'technically' performing on a day to day basis and if they give you a Zero hours contract, you can request days off really easily or get people to cover. Obviously it depends on the company/people at the top but if you luck out it's really easy.
I this week had to request 2 days off for auditions and got them off no problem.
I'd definitely suggest looking for those sort of jobs, there's museums wherever you go and there's those "Dungeon" attractions everywhere! Best of luck!

So I tried my hand at retail. I didn't so much mind the job, but I wasn't very experienced so I struggled without any assistance, and the manager noticed so they let me go.

So it's back to the drawing board.

..It's called being an actorpreneur!
However, when you do the acting work you should get paid for doing it (proper pay for the proper job!) then you won't have to walk dogs, work at dodgy call centres or swallow helium so often for a living!

...You could of course write a book!
have a look at this:

Very actorpreneurish of the writer...

yep that's true but if you decided to accept paid acting work only whilst manipulating the economies of scale to function, you might end getting more paid acting work..

In fact maybe all of us would get more paid acting work... Abracadabra !

Why don't you look at Network Marketing? I've been with Forever Living since November last year and it's changed my life. I work from home around the hours I choose and never have to miss an audition or class again. I'm building a team in South Africa & Dubai and all from the sofa. It's ideal for actors, it pays well plus it's a way to build up a royalty style income meaning financial security for life. I'd highly recommend it, I wish more actors would get involved, it's ideal, plus means no more soul destroying jobs! I'd happily send you more details?

Hiya, I've just started temping, like office work, reception etc....I used CareerLegal and MHR but Office Angels has been recommended to me.

Alot of it is just answering phones/emails or just signing staff in and out of the buliding...there are all sorts of jobs and they often only go for a few days or weeks so they dont expect you be amazing but willing to learn.

Goodluck on the hunt!

...if it sounds too good to be true,it usually is!
However,if you can make multi-level marketing work for you, that's great.

That's true, if it sounds too good to be true alarm bells should ring! You have to put the work in to see results like any business owner would but once you do the results follow.
