Actors quotes

Nigel Peever
Actor

I've just browsing some actors quotes and I liked these two.

Hugh Laurie
Seems to me that this business, for actors anyway, is not so much about whether or not you do good work. It's about whether or not you get the chance to do good work.

Helen Hayes
Actors work and slave and it is the color of your hair that can determine your fate in the end.

Nigel the second quote is interesting. I went for a casting today and was asked 'do you have any family members, we're short of Middle Eastern people.'
My husband (who is a builder, and we are actually Asian) will be attending tomorrow!

Not quite an actors quote but amusing nonetheless.
This quote was made about Fred Astaire after his first screen-test:
"Can't act. Can't sing. Balding. Can dance a little."

Brilliant. Never let rejection get to you!

Toni Brooks

Not really a quote but a line from a sketch with Tony Blackburn where the actress says: 'Who do you have to sleep with to get off this show?'

Ha good one Toni...which reminds me of MAX in the producers:
"Who do ya have to F--K to get a break in this town?"

Love this one from Sean Penn

"I've always operated under the notion that audiences don't always know when they're being lied to, but that they always know when they're being told the truth"

Again not an actors quote but a quote about actors, "You mean you actually rehearse? I thought you just put on stupid hats and trusted to luck!"
Edmund Blackadder

Anonymous A: "What type of actor do you want to be, a rich and famous celebrity or a 'serious' respected actor?"

Anonymous B: "I'd settle for employed."

Another favourite. Someone once asked the great John Barrymore: "Did Hamlet sleep with Ophelia?" Barrymore replied: "Only in the Chicago company."

Not an actress's quote I know but worth mentioning: Dorothy Parker 'If all the women in this room were laid end to end - I wouldn't be surprised'

Here's some from Michael Caine (by the way, in my book, one the best actors anywhere and I thought he was the best "John Lennon" I have ever seen when I saw him in "Children of Men")

"I'll always be there because I'm a skilled professional actor. Whether or not I've any talent is beside the point."

"First of all, I choose the great roles, and if none of these come, I choose the mediocre ones, and if they don't come, I choose the ones that pay the rent."

"The best research for playing a drunk is being a British actor for 20 years."

And .. of course .. (I don't know if he ever actually said this or not)

"My name is Michael Caine - not a lot of people know that."

Brgds All.

A couple of my faves...

Joan Littlewood- "If we don't get lost we'll never find a new route."

Shakespeare- "It is not enough to speak, but to speak true."

Faith Prince- "Be sure of your own craft and talent. If you wait for other people to define that, i don't think you can last."

Kate Williams- "Acting is doing, not feeling"

Harvey Fierstein- "If a straight guy gets a gay role they go, 'look at all the research i had to do! Nobody says to Ian Mckellen, 'My God, how did you study so hard to play heterosexual?!"
