Adding yourself to the IMDb

I think I must be highly stupid, but I can't seem to work out how to add myself to the IMDb.

I must be missing something on their website, as I can only seem to see their registration for general, free membership.

Thanks in advance...

Find the production you were in, then scroll right down to the bottom of the page where it has a buton marked "Update".Follow the highly complicated set of forms to ad yourself to the producttion.

At some point, if your not already listed in IMDb, the form background will turn red and give you the option to create "different" person, et voila...you're at the right forms to add yourself.

It has to be said,IMDb isn't the easiest system to work with but once you've got the hang of their form system it does the job. Be patient though, once you've clicked on "finish" it can take weeks to see the data you've added to appear on the live system.

As usual you are there with the answers Forbes - you the man!

What happens if I can't find a film I've been in, but I know it's eligible for inclusion (fills all the criteria for entry) Is there a way I can add it and then add myself to it?

And thank you again. Posting onto Casting Call Pro is so much easier than waiting days for a reply from the actual customer help email address! All your knowledge is appreciated xxx

May I ask what IMDb is?

Editorial Comment International Movie Database - imdb for short. Fantastic resource for film & tv. www.imdb.com

You cannot add yourself to IMDB.

YOu will be added automatcially when a production you have done is added.

However, it's not so easy any more to get a film added to IMDB, they are getting more stringent. In fact, they mostly add films themselves these days, instead of taking submissions.

Tell the director of your production to get into gear and contact IMDB, as you won't be able to log a film yourself.

I found out the answer to my last question.

To add a new film/title to the database you can use this following link:

http://www.imdb.com/updates?update=title

Then you can obviously add yourself to it a couple of weeks/months down the line.

What a palaver (good word, but how on earth do you spell it?!), but I'd say it was worth it.

Definately Mark...the forms are scary so I've contacted my directors and asked if they'd submit them themselves - I didn't know half the information they required!

Thanks everyone for your input xx

It's important that you get a page though. Especially for non-UK casting profesionals, that's the only site they'll check.

Anyone who knows me knows that I just hate to be disagreeable but, in this case, I have no choice but to disagree with Mark's first posting in this topic.

You can inded add yourself to IMDb it's just not a simple process and everything you do add is verified with the production companies involved prior to being added to the live system so you can't add a whole load of productions to your credits that you were never in.

Under normal circumstances the prduction companies will ad the entries but nothing is perfect in this world and mistakes are made.

To add an individual isn't hard but adding a production is hugely complicated.

True. I found out how easy it was to add myself by accidentally (don't ask) adding myself to the cast of Titanic! Obviously I let them know it was a mistake, but shows how easy it is.

Well, yes, it's fairly easy to add yourself to a film you're not in.

However, if you don't have a page, your film won't be on there, so you're gonna have to add the film, no?

That's what I meant.

is it possible to add yourself even if you hav'nt been in a major film or a film that will not be shown? or is it possible just to put a photo and cv or with agents details on imbd?

No, IMDB is not a casting directory, it's a comprehensive movie listing site.

Only if you have appeared in a film, TV show or documentary that IMDB have deemed suitable for addition will you have a page created for yourself.

I always find Mark gives the best info, straight to the point and along the line of most working actors think.

Now here's the joke
I am listed for Basic Instinct 2 as a Driver, I did do that, but I was there hired as a suppoerting artist. I swear I did not put that entry on myslef. I dont know who did. but now if I type my name in Google, I am all over the place all linked to this film. again I promise I did not do that one myself.

Forbes is right. I added my details to imdb about two weeks ago and now just been put on there. You can do it yourself.

Why would you need to add yourself?

If you're in a film on that's on IMDB, you'll be put onto the database anyway, surely.
