Blakes 7

Is anyone else out there a fan of Blakes 7. I've now got all the DVDs (all four of them) and this weekend, as my son and daughter were away in Denmark doing re-enactments, I had a veritable BlakeFest. I know it's hammy and some of the episodes were way out there - but it's brilliant. I once played Goneril in the style of Servalan - really worked :-))

Okay, geeky POV here; I love Blakes 7! It was a great piece of work. I used to watch repeats on (What was then) UK Gold.

Looks very dated nowadays but it was groundbreaking for its time - the hero was a complete Bastard! I loved that!

Those were the days,...

Loved this show as a kid. There have been a number of attempts to reboot the series over the years. You can read about the latest one here:

A few years ago a series of audios were produced, with a completely different cast, but which attempted to capure Terry Nation's original concept for the show which would've been a lot darker - he wanted it to be like "The Dirty Dozen in Space".

I saw the first episode of the TV series again recently and was surprised at how adult themed it was and also at one or two of the things that I'd forgotten. Episode one is set on a dystopian (and Orwellian) future Earth, where Blake is put on trial on trumped up charges of sex offences! Very different from the Space Opera that the show very quickly went on to become.

Yes I'm 47 so blakes seven was essential viewing for me too.
Very Liberating!
Although I've always been a Dr Who Fan.
I know one of the background guys from the first episode of blakes seven and one of my claims to fame is being in the first red dwarf.more Sci Fi please, a handful of Dr Who episodes at a time isn't enough!

Hey, I'm glad there are so many Blake fans out there. I'm also a Dr Who fan as well as the American Firefly series and the spin off film Serenity.

Ah, Blakes 7! Acorn Antique style wobbly sets and pretty much everything outdoors filmed in an old quarry near Rickmansworth! Total rubbish, but that's all we had in the 70's!!

What happened to my old mate Norman Tipton? Anybody know him? He was in Dr Who as well.

Ah, but the wobbly sets were brilliant and I loved the joystick contraption that made the ship go faster :-D)

Some of you may know that there is a US tv station that wants to remake it, on a par with the remake of Battlestar Galactica. Its been all over the sci fi websites and magazines so there is a lot of hope and a bit of hype around its relaunch in the USA. Can`t say much more as I dont know too much myself but am following the story regularly.

Interesting John. Are you going to get the one out in November? If so, will you let us know what you think of it?

Haha, I know at least one of the Big Finish writers myself. The excellent John Dorney - also a very fine actor.
