Call time when filming

Why is it that the time actors are called for filming is never the time they are needed?Surely Directors must have some idea when they will be shooting a scene!I've waited more than 8 hours & I'm not talking Block buster film!Mainly it seems to be the'techies'holding things up.M.Coghlan
It is a good thread for one reason - if you "moan moan moan" on a film set chances are no-one will tell you on the day. At best they just won't use you again.
To date I've never heard anyone on a film set describe the crew as "techies" - I've only ever heard that phrase in theatre. If things are not moving on as hoped for chances are they are trying to solve problems, not create delays.
As to who to listen to: ForbesKB does have a very impressive IMDB profile. And to paraphrase what Alan says, never be late, go with the flow and be part of the solution, not one of the problems.
